The goal of Taiji and Qigong is to enhance flexibility, balance, and strength, both physically and mentally. Each class is begun with a meditation to center the mind and body, followed by taiji and qigong. Developed in China, Taiji (pronounced 'tie-chee') is a martial art that has been used for its healing properties for centuries. All movements are initiated from a relaxed state of being, emphasizing proper alignment of the spine and other joints, while realizing the body's internal energy. Qigong (pronounced 'chee-gong'), another Chinese art form, involves meditative health exercises which combine body movement, breathing and visualization. Both are beneficial for people of all levels in terms of health, fitness, and experience.
